Joseph F. Kilner, CPA
“I enjoy taking the time to get to know our clients and understanding what is most important to them. Then we are able to tailor our advice to meet their unique goals and circumstances. The personal relationships we form with our clients are what make every day at work so satisfying.”
At FRG Joe acquired FRG in 2006 after providing tax services to many of the firm’s existing clients. Maintaining an existing client-centric culture, Joe has worked closely with his team to integrate and expand on the firm’s investment, estate and tax planning, with a focus on offering clients a “one-stop shop” for financial resources.
Joe thrives on educating individuals and their families, so they can discover, consider and ultimately act on their financial goals. He also oversees the firm’s technical analysis services to offer people broad insights into their wealth. He devotes a majority of his time to one-on-one client advice.
Complementing his FRG activities, Joe teaches a series of continuing education classes, Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement®, through the local Montgomery College Lifetime Learning Institute.
Prior Experience and Credentials Joe began his career at a midsize, local public accounting firm, later operating his own CPA firm from 1996–2008. He developed a range of expertise including pension fund and investment manager analysis; taxation for individuals and corporations; financial accounting; business consulting; and strategic and financial planning for corporations, not-for-profits and individuals. An additional dimension to Joe’s career is his dedication to the Catholic Church, for whom he has served in a variety of youth and college ministry capacities. Joe holds bachelor’s degrees in accounting and theology from Mount St. Mary’s University.
Interests and Community Joe enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife, Colleen, their two daughters, Karen (11) and Laura (8), and their Irish setter, “Lady.” He serves on the Board of Trustees and as chairman of the Development Committee at his daughters’ independent school, The Banner School, in Frederick, Maryland. Joe is an active member at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Urbana, where he teaches religious education. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Maryland Association of CPAs.
Mindy Wiedel
“In real life the financial plan sometimes needs to be adjusted. Life happens. Nothing makes me happier than hand-holding our clients through these hurdles.”
At FRG Mindy joined FRG in 1993 during its formative years and has remained among its guiding lights, particularly in its mission to deliver superior client services. Initially FRG’s office manager, she has since acquired financial advisor credentials, enabling her to offer comprehensive service as an investment advisor. Mindy often acts behind the scenes, assisting with retirement planning analyses, fielding investor questions, overseeing account management and generally ensuring smooth-flowing operations.
Prior Experience and Credentials Prior to joining FRG, Mindy was in retail management. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration marketing, with a minor in statistics from Shepherd University.
Interests and Community Mindy devotes much of her free time to her son’s baseball and her daughter’s varsity cheerleading activities, traveling both regionally and nationally to participate in their events and competitions. She also enjoys the occasional Harley ride with her husband, or a romp with their three dogs (two yellow labs and a “chug”). Mindy is an avid Ravens football fan with season tickets. When it comes to his preference for the Redskins, she forgives Joe the error of his ways.
